dark entries present -a tape-, a double lpof early work by helena hauff, a dj and record producer based in hamburg, germany. at university she studied fine art, physics, and systematic music science. she previously was a resident at hamburg s golden pudel club, where she hosted a night called birds and other instruments. as a selector she weaves energetically between electro, new wave, and ebm. her music, often recorded live in one take, has a raw intensity to it. she debuted with an ep on werkdiscs back in 2013 followed by records for lux_rec and bunker sublabel panzerkreuz as well as two collaborative eps for pan, produced under the name black sites with fellow pudel resident f#x. �a tape� is a compilation of helena�s earliest recordings from 2011 and 2014, originally released on limited cassette by handmade birds in 2015. clocking in at over 50 minutes, this collection spans hauff�s musical universe, from jacking acid-techno to krautish zone-outs and scuzzy feedback interludes. it�s tempting to consider it helena�s debut album, but she views these tracks as mostly forgotten sketches left on the cutting room floor. it a gripping collection of deep, sinister analog synth sequences, industrial dissonance, and heavy percussion. her equipment set up was a roland alpha juno 2, juno 60, tb-303, tr-707 and tr-808. both of the discs end with hauff stepping outside of the intentionally stiff, robotic rhythms, instead showing her skill at crafting less conventional electronic sounds. all songs have been mastered by james plotkin with vinyl eq and lacquer cut by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the record is housed in a custom made jacket designed by eloise leigh, featuring a checkered graphic and black lines, highlighted by yellow and green for maximum visual tension. each copy includes a double-sided postcard with notes.

lucas koprowski aka his dirty secrets was born and raised in poland, today he resides in beautiful key west, florida. lucas began his career in music whilst attending the music academy in poland, graduating with his masters in classic violin. constantly searching for new techniques to expand his musical repertoire, he began taking recording studio classes, mastering software and analog instruments. eventually he designed the sounds that he later applied to his music, first, with hip-hop, then with nu-disco, which gave the original artists more recognition and independence. winning the competition for the best mix in south florida gave him a chance to play a set in one of the best underground clubs in america, the electric pickle. in 2016, he published his first ep, a compilation of his disco edits and house music with midnight riot in london. the single ended up in at #1 for several weeks on the juno disco charts and gave him the opportunity to release the vinyl with another uk label, masterworks, positively reviewed in mixmag magazine and more.

while many us producers from the second house wave of the 90s are looked at like demigods, others have remained partly in the shadows, and considerably underrated given their achievements. anthony nicholson is one producer who belongs to the latter category, but one which we ve been supporting since day one of juno. the man came to prominence thanks to a fruitful relationship with ron trent, and also to a whole heap of quality releases for known imprints like peacefrog, prescription, and nite grooves. this week, however, he s up on his own highly underrated circular motion, spear-headed by the excellent -miquifaye studio rewerk-, a tribal house groove with a deep, wondrous backdrop of synth exploration. -beat pad apella- is a jazzier piece of music, an enticing house chiller with plenty of musical nuances that bounce off its full, intricate groove. excellent - don t overlook this one...

italian duos nice7 & dirty channels join forces for the first time to deliver the acid induced feelings ep on crosstown rebels. the release features two exceptional originals with torontos nathan barato bringing his signature heavy sounds into play for the remix. nicola daniele and cesare marocco aka nice7 are amongst the latest italian stars to emerge in dance music. since 2005, the year in which the two of them paired up, they have released on labels like noir music, get physical, remote area, suara, defected and gruuv. dirty channels are simone & leme, who started working together in 2008 after long single dj careers. releases soon followed for big labels such as josh wink s ovum, hot creations sub-label hot waves and culprit la as well as licenses on several defected compilations. nathan barato worked his way onto the world stage with releases on the likes of cajual, saved and hot creations. 2016 also saw him as resident for jamie jones paradise at dc10 in ibiza. here he delivers a punchy remix to dominate the dancefloor, centered around a hefty bassline, tight drum patterns and slick vocal cuts.

mysterious producer kian t is a crazy guy living in a lonely house on a top of a hill somewhere in italy. surrounded by a collection of rare old synths and vintage samplers, a little dog and the best red wine of italy. kian is making beats all day long. that�s his life. he started his career on toy tonics last year and now is back with an own ep - full of that fucked up, jazz influenced cut & paste house sound that is taking over the house world since last year. similar to his friends rhode & brown, fouk, nachtbraker or the guys around oye records in berlin he loves to create this special way of sampling old jazz records and using rare vintage synthesizers instead of digital computer sounds. just listen to a normal deep house records of the last years and compare it with the sound of the kian. using these old synths makes a big difference. you can hear it on every of his tunes: there is no cheap sound here everything is fat and has a very warm, personal, always easy to recognize sound-aesthetic: courtesy of the four synthesizers he uses: the korg polysix, the sequential prophet600, a roland juno 60, and the legendary oberheim matrix 6. and courtesy of the way he mixes his tracks: not in the laptop - but the old way: on a fat old mixing desk. thats why he has that massive sound.

�day of my death� by pavel milyakov, also known as buttechno, is his 8th release coming out this year. it consists of 6 pieces which were composed for gosha rubchinskiy s/s 17 show and performed in a extraordinary place in florence which is depicted on the front cover. mostly ambient, overdriving noise soundscapes and spoken word collages referring to the dreamy mood of the show. this work is more serious and mature than milyakov�s previous releases, exploring deeper and sacred images of his world.

impulsive and intuitive hardware house & techno from vancouver duo minimal violence aka ashlee luk & lida p. the five tracks on night gym soundtrack urban landscapes, textured synths, heavy kicks, and dense polyrhythms come together to form the duo s own brand of outsider house. citing influence from both minimal synth and chicago house, night gym arrives hot off the heels of the duo s self titled ep on dublin based first second label which closely examined the intersections that lay between punk and techno. recorded in february/march 2016 in the duo s home studio, the instinctual nature of live work flow plays an important role in the duo s creative process. utilizing hardware (sh-101, tr-606/505/707, waldorf blofeld, juno-60, dx-21, mpc1000) in addition to sourced samples with final compositions compiled and manipulated in ableton, night gym is an example of the duo s diverse interests and collaborative nature. the duo recruited visual support from chicago based graphic designer kevin mccaughey of nonporous for the distinct imagery of night gym. as well he designed the poster that comes in the 12- and screen printed a limited run of long sleeve t-shirts available through boot boys biz.

the next alien jams 12� is from rkss, entitled cutoff ep. these four tracks were recorded in 2014 within a period of two weeks, using a juno-60 and vermona retroverb lancet. perhaps their most dance-able release to date, cutoff interweaves aquarian dream-like electronics throughout soggy percussion and glistening chimes. propelling the listener forward, rkss churns through water-logged signals, while synths cut through in gusts of euphoria.

on the first side rumore and orphidal are opening the release with a 115 bpm proto-ambient track filled with liquid grooves and tribal elements while in the second cut they are showing us their faster and deep-acid side with conversations.
